Captain Howard A. Murphy (1864-1893) of Brooklyn, youngest and only surviving son of Mrs. Melzar Murphy of Brooklyn, died of yellow fever at Santos, Brazil 29 January 29, 1893, in his 30th year. At the time of his death and for the past three years he was master of the barque Privateer. He was the son of Melzar and Hannah (Corning) Murphy and unmarried. He received a certificate of competency as master mariner at Yarmouth on October 4, 1887.
