IONIA, Mich. — James Allen Alsup Jr., 58, of Ionia passed away May 7, 2013 in Ionia. He was born April 12, 1955 in Benton Harbor, Mich., the son of James Allen and Nancy C. (Sheppard) Alsup.

He served in the Marines during Vietnam.

James is survived by his daughters, Danielle Alsup of Joliet, Ill., and Elizabeth Alsup of Joliet, Ill.; ex wife, Mary Alsup of Joliet, Ill.; mother, Nancy Hill of Ionia; brothers, Steve (Cathy) Alsup of Ionia, Edward Powell of Ionia and Douglas (Janet) Alsup of Ludington; sister, Carolyn Hill of Joliet, Ill.; four step-brothers, Jackie Alsup, James Goben, Billy Goben and Gary Goben; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his father, James Allen; step father, Jessie Hill; brothers, Bruce Alsup, Ralph Alsup and Melvin Powell; and sister, Janet Ogden.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 11 at Lake Funeral Home of Ionia with Chaplain Bruce Kalish officiating.
