Barney Routt, who was drowned in the Cottonwood Tuesday afternoon, was buried in Maplewood. The funeral was held at his home, No. 9 Constitution street, at 3 p.m. Wednesday.

Robert Routt returned from the stone quarries near Strong City, last night about 8 o'clock to attend the funeral of his son who drowned. Both parents feel the loss of their son deeply.

Barney Routt was pushed into the water Tuesday by a colored boy from the bank about eight feet high. His brother John Routt, 12-years old, jumped in and brought him up and to within five feet of the bank. He asked the boys to help him out, but they were afraid. John has a piece bitten out of his breast where his brother Barney clung to him.

Drowned in the Cottonwood.
Barney Routt, 10 years old, was bathing down at Randolph's slaughter house at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday. Another boy pushed him into the Cottonwood river and he sank. Help was summoned from the city, but the boys had dived down and rescued him before it arrived. He had been in the water three quarters of an hour. Dr. T.C. Biddle and Dr. Moore were working on him at last accounts with small hopes. Routt lived at No. 9 Constitution.
