James M. "Jim" Allen, 84, of East Moline, died Sunday, Sept. 23, 2012, at Hope Creek Care Center in East Moline.

Services will be 10 a.m. Thursday at Schroder Mortuary in Silvis. Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. Wednesday at the mortuary. Burial will be at Greenview Memorial Gardens in East Moline. Memorials may be made to Edgewood Baptist Church.

He was born Oct. 14, 1927, in Hamilton, Ala., to John and Alice Harris Allen. He married Joyce Pratt on July 4, 1947, in Guin, Ala. She passed away Oct. 10, 2000.

James worked at John Deere Harvester in Moline for 39 years, retiring in 1987.

He was a past member of the Moose Lodge in Davenport.

Survivors include his sons, Jerry (Kathy), Morton, Ill., Jeffrey, San Diego, Calif., Jack (Cynthia), Orion; grandchildren, Melissa (Brendon) Barrett, Matthew (Chelsea) Allen, Alicia, James, Jon and Seth Allen; great-grandchildren, Olivia and Cora. He was preceded in death by his wife, Joyce; a sister, Lillie Franks; and a brother, Clint.

The family would like to extend a special thank you for the care given to Jim by Sharon Carroll and the support received by Bobbie and Ray Emerson.
