Joseph W. (Joe) Albea, (GySgt, USMC, Ret.), 82, of Albany, GA, died Wednesday, June 5, 2013 at Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, June 11, 2013 at 10:00 AM at Mathews Funeral Home. Rev. Bobby Moye will officiate. Interment will follow at Andersonville National Cemetery with military honors.

A native of Greenwood, SC, Mr. Albea had resided in Albany, GA since 1976 moving from Riverton, NJ. He was retired from the United States Marine Corps after twenty three years and served in Korea. Mr. Albea was also employed at the Marine Corps Logistic Base in Albany, GA before his retirement.

Mr. Albea was a member of the Loyal Order of the Moose, Lodge # 1285, The Benevolent and Protective Order of the Elk, Lodge # 713, a life member of The Veterans of Foreign Wars, Post # 2785, River Pointe Golf Club and The Laidback Golfers. He was preceded in death by his wife, Shirley M. Green Albea.

Survivors include his children, Joseph William Albea, Worth Dunn Albea, Memrie Susan Scales, all of Greensville, SC, Melodie Carmen Grimes of Winston-Salem, NC, Cheryl Marie Klett, NJ, Tammy Allison Albea, Roswell, GA, Marc Joseph Albea of Katy, TX , a sister, Betty Jean Bennington, and numerous grandchildren, nephews, and nieces.

The family will receive friends Monday, June 10, 2013 at Mathews Funeral Home from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM.
