Lewis Richard Daft, 82, of Fairmont, passed away Thursday (June 6, 2013) at Tygart Center in Fairmont.
He was born Feb. 2, 1931, at Everettsville, a son of the late Cecil and Bessie Oxley Daft.
Lewis was a coal miner, having retired from the Loveridge mine with more than 30 years of service. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served in the Korean War, and was Methodist by faith. Lewis also loved to fish and to spend time with his grandchildren.
Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Edith Cole Daft, whom he married April 25, 1954; three sons, Jack Daft and wife Tonya of Plum Run, Richard Daft and wife Kimberly of Farmington, and Jerry Daft and wife Terri of Farmington; two daughters, Lois Kennedy and husband Jim of Farmington, and Shirley Rager and husband Tim of Fairmont; 11 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren; a sister, Norma Johnson and husband Charles of Worthington; and sisters-in-law, Kathleen Daft of Mannington, Doris Parks of Nevada, and Betty Deam of Washington.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Charles R., Thomas W. and Herman E. Daft; a sister, Edith Monroe; and a grandson, Adam Daft.
Friends may call at Hutson Funeral Home in Farmington from 5-9 p.m. today, where funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday with Pastor Chad Hutson officiating. Interment will be in Beverly Hills Memorial Gardens in Westover. Marion County Veterans Council will conduct military honors.
