DAVIS- Alger M. Davis, 435 Mary st., age 71, died Sunday, September 16, 1956, at the residence. Funeral services will be held at 1:30PM Wednesday, September 19, 1956, from the Floral Chapel. Dodds-Dumanois Funeral Home. Rev. Elmer I Braden officiating.
Burial in Sunset Hills Cemetery. Mr. Davis will remain at Dodds-Dumanois Co. Funeral Home. Death followed an illness of 2 years.
He was born in Massillon, Ohio, April 13, 1885, the son of James H. and Sarah Griffith Davis and had lived in Flint the last 47 years coming from St. Charles, Mich. He married Catherine Mahoney at Saginaw, Mich., on Nov. 3, 1909.
Mr. Davis came to Michigan as a young boy, attended Ferris Institute. In 1909 began working for the Weston-Mott Co., later absorbed by Buick. Since that time he had been a Buick dealer and comptroller of the Detroit Transmission Division, but always returned to Buick. During the war he was assistant to the manufacturing manager at the Buick Melrose Plant. Illinois Aircraft Engine Plant. Before his retirement in 1950 he was assistant to E. T. Ragsdale, general manufacturing manager at Buick.
Mr. Davis was interested in sports and was affiliated with midget baseball for several years under Mott Foundation program, he also was interested in golf and football and was an original member and director of Atlas Valley Country Club.
Surviving are: Wife, Mrs. Catherine M. Davis; son, Donald F. Davis of Flint; grandson, Donald F. Davis Jr., of Flint; father, James H. Davis of Flint; 4 brothers, Clyde E., James P., and Byron Davis all of Flint, Russell W. Davis of Pittsburgh, Pa.; 2 sisters, Mrs. Clare Dupee of Flint. Mrs. James Gallinati of Brooklyn, Mich.
