The former owner of the DeGraff farm south of town passed away in Toronto, Canada, on October 26th. For a number of years he had been land foreman for DeGraff and later bought the 2600 acre farm from DeGraff. He sold 1700 acres of this tract and for a period of about fifteen years operated the balance. The original tract comprised the farms now owned by William Quade, Ernest Ewert, William Lange, Martin Winters, Gus Kopischke and Sam Hodgkins. Leaving here about twenty years ago, he went to Canada. The following account of his death was taken from the Toronto Globe of October 27th:
"Alexander Gunn, who died at his residence, 49 Boustead Avenue, yesterday, in his eighty-second year, was born at Beaverton, Ont. He was a son of John Gunn, who settled there in 1831, and was the third son in a family of nine. Mr. Gunn lived for the past fifteen years retired in Toronto. For thirty-five years previous he farmed extensively at Janesville, Minn., where he was regarded as one of the leaders in progressive farming. Mr. Gunn was a member of Erskine United Church.
Surviving are his widow and four children --- Douglas W., Toronto; Edomnd, Montreal; Mrs. Peter Henderson, Vancouver; and Walter, Mexico City. His eldest son, John, was killed in the Great War, serving with the American Army in France. Surviving also is one brother, Dr. William Gunn of Clinton, Ont., and Mrs. John Ross, of Nethy Bridge, Scotland. Interment will be made in the family plot, at the old Stone Church Cemetery, Beaverton, on Sunday, Oct. 28, at 2 p.m. The service will be held at 40 Boustead Avenue at 10 a.m. Sunday."
