He was a veteran of World War II, serving in both the Army and Navy. Leonard had been employed with Butler Brothers as an electrician for 38 years, retiring in 1978. He enjoyed lakeshore, having purchased several cabins throughout the years and had a love for planting trees at the cabins. Mr. Mayerle was a member of the American Legion Post 307 in Nashwauk and St. Cecilia's Catholic Church in Nashwauk.
Leonard is survived by his wife, Antionette; children: Kathy (Keith) Moellering, Joann (Rick) Martire, Jerry (Judy) Mayerle and Joe (Jane) Mayerle; seven grandchildren: Angela (Mark) Fischer, Ben (Nikki Huntington) Moellering, Chris (Kelsey Oie) Moellering, Julie (Matt) Salminen, Lenny (Jodie) Mayerle, Tom (Sara) Mayerle and Terese Mayerle; five great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his siblings: Joseph, Kathryn, Jack, Julie and Frank, and his parents.
Burial was in the Nashwauk Cemetery.
