Pastor Briggs was born in Carroll County, Virginia on June 15, 1947 a son of the late Rev. Wayne Edwin Briggs and Sally Ovilia Mills Briggs. He was the Pastor of Midway Chapel Church in Saltville, Virginia. He was a true friend to everyone he had the opportunity to meet.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by one brother, Jim Briggs; one sister, Ruth McGlothlin; two sisters-in-law, Polly South and Sheila Holley; three brothers-in-law, Raymond Holley, Emory Collins and Fred South.
Survivors include: his wife, Dottie Briggs of Glade Spring, Virginia; two sons, Tony Briggs and wife, Joy of Elizabethton, Tennessee; Eddie Briggs and wife, Tisha of Rich Valley, Virginia; five grandchildren, Mark Bailey, Caleb Bailey, Kayla "K Baby" Carrier, "Little Man" Dyson and "Angel Pie" Olivia; two sisters, Darlene Thomas and husband, Ronald of Meadowview, Virginia; Florence Collins of Roanoke, Virginia; five brothers, Russell Briggs and wife, Myrtle of Roanoke, Virginia; Rev. Johnny Briggs and wife, Zona of Woodlawn, Virginia; Tommy Briggs and wife, Carolyn of Hillsville, Virginia; Jackie Briggs and wife, JoAnn of Waynesboro, Virginia; Billy Briggs and wife, Linda of Marion, Virginia; In-laws, Gene Holley and wife, Elsie, Tom Holley, Roger McGlothlin, Marie Clifton and husband, Herb, Hazel Bowman and Mildred Holley; mother-in-law, Lottie Holley of Glade Spring, Virginia; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral Services for Pastor Robert S. Briggs will be conducted at 2 P.M. on Sunday, September 14, 2008 in the Midway Chapel Church with Pastor James Tiller, Rev. Bill Taylor, Dr. Kenneth Jordan and Delegate Bill Carrico officiating. Burial will follow in Mount Rose Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 4 P.M. to 8 P.M. on Saturday in the Midway Chapel Church. Friends may also call at the residence at anytime.
Active Pallbearers will be Don Clifton, Eugene Holley, Tim Holley, Dwayne South, Craig South and Keith Holley. Honorary Pallbearers will be the Men of the Midway Chapel Church.
