Melba Lucille Poling was born a twin to sister Thelma Poling on Sept. 9, 1921 in Columbus, Ohio to Ersel Isaac Poling and to Margarete M. Geisinger. She graduated from North High school about 1939.She married Norman Phelps (Nov 7, 1941 in Franklin county, Ohio) and they had a daughter named Sandra Phelps. They later divorced. She married William P. Stone (Sept. 13,1945 in Columbus, Ohio)and they had a son named Phillip Lesley Stone.They later divorced. She married Richard P. Gavin(April 5, 1956 in Cols, ohio) and they had a son named Richard Thomas Gavin.They lived at 1300 Fowler Dr., Columbus, Ohio. Mel was a member of the Clintonville Women's Club. Mel retired from work as a legal secretary for the firm of Wright, harlor, Purpose, Morris, and Arnold.She also worked for the Columbus City Schools as an administative assistant at Columbus North High School, her alma mater.Her husband Richard died on Jan 31, 1997 of pneumonia. Melba died on March 10, 2009 of cardiopulmonary arrest. She was very kind and honest and caring.
