Ira was the son of Kingsbury Whittemore and Mary Leach Whittemore.

Ira married first to Mary Mead on July 2 1871 in Richford Vt, they had two daughters: Eliza and Cora. It is not known what happen to Mary Mead Whittemore.

Eliza married Almon Draper, June 2, 1892 in Richford Vt, and daughter Cora Whittemore Williams married Carlton George Williams, March 21, 1897 in Shelburne Vermont.

Ira married 2nd to Cora (White) Whittemore on Jan 20 1886 Georgia Vermont.

Ira and 2nd wife Cora, only had two sons before Ira died Aug 27, 1897. Clayton (Chet) and Floyd. A third boy was born about 15 mos after his death and was named Harold. This child, was not Ira's. But Cora was the mother. Harold was adopted abt 1900 and raised in Canada with the name of Charles Hibbard, not knowing his real family until his dieing adopted mother told him of his real family in Vermont. Before his death in Canada in 1953 he did return to Vermont for a short visit to meet his half brothers.

Ira E Whittemore died of Cancer of the neck on Aug 27 1897 in Westford Vermont.
