Telegrapher who received the first telegraph message on a commercial telegraph line, Jan 8, 1846. First Superintendent of Telegraph on the Pennsylvania Railroad, 1855. Worked on the telegraph line of the Transcontinental Railroad. Inventor of the Brooks' Rams Horn Insulator. Philadelphia manufacturer of insulators, cables and other electrical apparatus.
