Oliver served in the Civil War, including spending one summer with General William Tecumseh Sherman. He received a flesh wound in the neck.
After the war he went to California and then in 1870 to Douglas County, Oregon, where he was a farmer and cabinet maker.
He was accidentally shot in the leg during a hunting expedition and died from blood poisoning.

PJC - and fyi - in the book "The Hannums of Massachusetts", page 478 it says that he is buried in the Odd Fellows Cemetery in Canyonville, Douglas, Oregon.
