The News-Herald, Hillsboro, Ohio, September 29, 1892:

Alice Woodmansee was born in Monmouth County, New Jersey, February 2nd, 1830, and died September 17, 1892.

When ten years of age she came with her parents to Highland County, Ohio, and was married to Havilah Hixson May 21st, 1846.

To them were born seven children, two of whom in early life were taken to the home beyond the river.

Four daughters and one son still live to mourn the loss of a devoted and loving mother, the husband and father having been called from labor to the reward of those who love and serve the Lord February 6th, 1884. The wife and brother was left to walk life's journey without his counsel and care, surrounded by the children she loved.

In her girlhood days she was converted and united with the Methodist Church of which she always remained a consistent member, never swerving from a firm settled purpose to devote her life to the service of Him who had given himself for her redemption.

Always quiet and unassuming in her manner, but with a warm feeling and cordial greeting for all, she had many friends and as few to find fault or censure as perhaps any one. The words of the wise man, "Her children rise up and call her blessed," apply with real truth to her.

The thought of her loving, gentle spirit and patient manner will ever be to them a cherished remembrance far surpassing any earthly value.

While her loss will be to them an irreparable one, yet they rejoice that the more than six long years of untold suffering are passed forever and her happy, glorified spirit has gone to join the dear ones on the other shore where suffering and pain are never permitted to enter, but where the dear Savior shall wipe all tears away and with His own hand lead them beside the living waters and through the gold paved streets of the New Jerusalem.

She became a member of the W.F.M. Society early in the history of the organization, perhaps in 1871, and until she became an invalid and it was not possible to do so was always present at our monthly meetings and ever so much interested in its success.

When the hand of affliction was so heavy upon her that her face was no longer seen at our coming together we all felt very keenly her loss, and while we mourn one gone from our ranks we bow in submission to Him who doeth all things in His own perfect way and pray that her mantle may fall upon those who are left yet to work.
