Clifford Emil Johnson, 94, Akron passed away September 23, 2001 at the Akron Care Center after a brief illness.

Funeral services were held on Wednesday, September 26 at the Immanuel Lutheran Church.

Mr. Johnson was born May 31, 1907 on a farm just south of Akron to Gustav and Hulda Johnson. He attended rural Tucker's school and graduated from Akron High School in 1925.

Following high school, Mr. Johnson was a farm worker, did road maintenance, and was later employed at the Akron Feed Mill for 10 years. He then served as bookkeeper at the Akron Coop Elevator for six months before being named as general manager, a position he held for ten years.

Mr. Johnson was united in marriage to Irma R. Johnson on June 26, 1936 in Sioux City.

In 1951 the family moved to Sheldon, where he was general manager of the Farmers Coop. One of his greatest accomplishments was designing and overseeing the building of a large, innovative feed mill that continues serving the coop well today. In 1959 he became plant superintendent of the new regional feed plant built by the Big 4 Coop Processing Association, which later joined with FELCO, and still later Land O Lakes. He retired in 1972, yet kept an active interest in farming and the elevator business.

Mr. Johnson was baptized into the Christian faith at Union Creek Church. His parents were charter members of Immanuel Lutheran Church where he was confirmed. He was active at Immanuel and served as president of the church council.

Mr. Johnson returned to Akron in 1994 after his wife's death. He enjoyed the senior center and took part in the Lions Club.

In December 1999, he entered the Akron Care Center where he was member of the Bell Ringers. He also enjoyed playing cards and other games, looping loops for rugs and tours with residents.

Survivors include his daughters, Sylvia and Fred Hawker of Greene, IA and Ellen Kay and Walt Gower of Duluth, MN; his grandchildren, Devin and Wendy Hawker of North Hollywood, CA, Kara and Kurt Vander Wiel of Cedar Falls, Ross and Sarah Hawker of Cedar Falls, David Gower of Austin, TX, Stephan and Sara Gower of Seattle, WA and Sarah Gower of Sauk Rapid, MN; his great-grandchildren, Logan, Caleb and Ethan Vander Wiel, Hannah and Grace Hawker, Lauren Hawker, and Nicholas Gower; his sisters, Lois Decker of Sparta, WI and Phyllis Frisk of Akron; his brothers, Arden and Alta Johnson and Roger and Phyllis Johnson all of Akron; many nieces and nephews, and other relatives.
