Peter Maxfield Sr.
Peter Maxfield, Sr, age 90, son of Harriott Jackson Page Maxfield and U.S. Navy Commander Louis Henry Maxfield, passed away peacefully on May 20, 2010 in the company of his children and his beloved companion and dear family friend, Ann Black.
He was preceded in death by each of his wives, Jean Simpson Maxfield and Frances Trott Maxfield, his sister, Page Maxfield Marx, and his granddaughter Hilary.
Born Nov.1, 1919 in Washington, D.C., Peter graduated from The Choate School and attended the University of Virginia. After working in the Newport News Shipyards during World War II, he went on to enlist in the U.S. Navy. Following his Honorable Discharge, he moved to Texas where he began a career in the wholesale grocery business, which culminated recently with his work at H.E.B. in San Antonio.
Peter is survived by his children, Jean Sayre Maxfield, Page Hansen (Jeff), Cleaves Carpenter, and Peter Maxfield, Jr.(Loreen); 6 grandchildren: Jean, Andrew, Jason, Malcolm, Kristen, and Page; and 2 great-grandchildren, Esther and Andrew.
The family will host a memorial reception on Friday, June 11, 2010 at 4:00 p.m. at The Forum, 311 Nottingham West, San Antonio. Members of the family wish to express their appreciation to staff members of the CIMA Hospice for their kind and professional service and to Octavia Passmore for her special caring and expertise.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Peter's name to the American Institute for Cancer Research or to the National Audubon Society (www.audubon.org); or the Bexar Audubon Society, San Antonio, TX .
