Mrs. W.M. Kent
Died Mon. from
Long Illness
Mrs. W.M. Kent, a much beloved woman, died at 11:05 p.m., on Monday at her home on South Main street following an illness of more than two years. Funeral services were held Wednesday, December 15, at 10:00 a.m., at the First Methodist church, with Dr. A.M. Freeman, pastor; Dr. B.C. Taylor, a former pastor, and Rev. Gerald W. Trussell, pastor of the First Baptist church, and a neighbor, officiating. Interment was in the Arlington cemetery under the direction of the Norton Funeral Home of Homer.
Mrs. Kent, formerly, Miss Annie Dakin, was born and reared in Claiborne county, Miss., but she and her fine family have been residents of Homer for the past 26 years. She was a member of the local Methodist church and was very active in all phases of church work, especially the Woman's Society of Christian Service, of which she has been a life long member. Whenever the church doors opened you could always find Mr. and Mrs. Kent, and during her illness the past two years, she would always attend church whenever she felt at all like getting out. She was a lovable person, enjoyed herself, at all times and made friends with everyone she came in contact with.
Her husband is a retired superintendent of the Louisiana and North West Railroad. Some two years ago, Mr. and Mrs. Kent planned a big celebration of their Golden Wedding anniversary, but due to her illness, they quietly celebrated this occasion.
Survivors are her husband; one daughter, Mrs. Reuel Coleman; four sons, Willie Earl Kent of Cleveland, Miss.; Leo R. Kent of Ft. Worth, Texas; Aubrey L. Kent, Santa Paula, Calif.; and Robert M. Kent of Homer; four grandchildren, James William Kent, Mrs. Jimmie Cates, Reuel Coleman, Jr., and Andrea Kent; and one great grandchild, James Michael Kent; two sisters, Mrs. E.E. McKeithen, Laurel, Miss.; and Mrs. R.L. Fitzgerald, Cleveland, Miss; and one brother, R.M. Dakin, of Cleveland, Miss.
Pallbearers were George White, J.T. Gibson, Harry McKenzie, Fomby Coleman, J.W. Coleman, J.M. Oakes, A.P. Endom, and Jack Smith.
Honorary pallbearers included the Board of Stewards of the Methodist church and Dr. E.A. Campbell and Drs. James and Pat Gladney.
