"He was born in Alabama. He married Nancy Bunch and had 3 children with her. She died in 1853. He then married Phebe Allred and had 11 children. At the age of 34, "A.J." volunteered for service in the Confederate Army. After the war, A.J. farmed in the Boxley Valley (AR) and helped run the gristmill then moved his family to Texas in 1871."
