KANNAPOLIS - Louise Bentley Blackwelder, 87, of 1400 Glenn Avenue, passed away Sunday, March 18, 2007, at 4:38 p.m.

Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Wednesday, March 21, at Whitley's Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow in Carolina Memorial Park.

Louise was employed with Kannapolis City School as food service director for 19 years, until her retirement in 1984. She was a long-time member of Lakewood Baptist Church, Kannapolis. She was a lifetime resident of the area and was a graduate of J.E. Cannon High School. She and her late husband had been married for over 50 years. She enjoyed cooking for her family.

She was preceded in death by her husband, George Vernon "Bud" Blackwelder, who passed away July 27, 1994.

She is survived by her son, Jerry V. Blackwelder of Greensboro; two daughters, Jeannie B. Reid and husband, Craig of Kannapolis and Judy B. Cannon and husband, James of Tobaccoville; two sisters; four grandchildren, Thomas James, Leigh Ann James, Jerome Cannon and wife, Kim, and Jodie Evington and husband, Max; four great-grandchildren, Bradley Evington, Josh Evington, Zach Cannon, and Will Cannon.

The family will receive friends from 1:30 until 3 p.m. Wednesday at Whitley's Funeral Home.

Memorials may be made to Lakewood Baptist Church, 806 Klutz Street, Kannapolis, N.C. 28081.

KANNAPOLIS - Louise Bentley Blackwelder, 87, of 1400 Glenn Ave., died unexpectedly Sunday, March 18, 2007, at NorthEast Medical Center. The funeral service will be 3 p.m. Wednesday at Whitley's Funeral Home Chapel, Kannapolis, with the Rev. Robert Howard and Jerome Cannon officiating. The family will receive friends from 1:30 to 3 p.m. Wednesday at Whitley's Funeral Home.

Mrs. Blackwelder was born April 10, 1919, in Cabarrus County, the daughter of the late Charlie E. Bentley and the late Cordie Christy Bentley. She was employed with Kannapolis City Schools as food service director for 19 years until her retirement in 1984. She had also worked at Bitsy Bakery, Woolworth's Department Store and Cannon Mills Co. at other times in her life. She was a long time member of Lakewood Baptist Church, Kannapolis. A lifetime resident of the area, she was a graduate of J.W. Cannon High School. She enjoyed cooking for her family.

Mrs. Blackwelder was preceded in death by her husband of more than 50 years, George Vernon "Bud" Blackwelder who died July 27, 1994; and by three brothers.

Survivors include her son, Jerry V. Blackwelder of Greensboro; daughters, Jeannie B. Reid and husband, Craig, of Kannapolis and Judy B. Cannon and husband, James, of Tobaccoville; sisters, Ruby McKinney and Lois Carter both of Kannapolis; grandchildren, Thomas James, Leigh Ann James, Jerome Cannon and wife, Kim, and Jodie Evington and husband, Max; and great-grandchildren, Bradley Evington, Josh Evington, Zach Cannon and Will Cannon.
