Abbott, Helen 86 of Granite City, formerly of Pontiac, IL passed away on Monday, May 27, 2013 at Granite Nursing and Rehabilitation in Granite City. Helen was born on August 16, 1926 in Granite City to the late Avedis and Ankin (Tatoian) Parsaghian. The long time administrative assistant worked at the Robert Young Building in St. Louis for the U.S. Government. She became a member of the 3rd Baptist Church on Grand Ave. in St. Louis in 1967 and attended St. Gregory Armenian Church in Granite City. Helen had a kind heart and would do anything to help her family and others. She will be remembered for the many special times shared together with her family. She is survived by and will be missed by her niece; Rebecca and (Paul) Willhoft of St. Louis, MO; nephews, Charles Vartan of Tulsa, OK, Ken and (Thuy) Vartan of Anchorage, AK, Zorab and (Beverly) Hagopian of Radom, IL, Zaven and (Patty) Hagopian of Oakland, CA; sister, Isabelle Vartan of St. Louis, MO. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband; Don Abbott, whom she married in July, 1976; sister, Rose Hagopian; brother, Evon Parsaghian; nephew, Zarzand Hagopian. Services: Friends may call on Thursday, May 30, 2013 from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Irwin Chapel, 3960 Maryville Road in Granite City. In celebration of her life services will be held on Friday, May 31, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Gregory Armenian Church, 3501 Century Drive in Granite City with Fr. Stephan Baljian officiating. Burial will be at Sunset Hill Memorial Estates in Glen Carbon. Memorials are suggested to St. Gregory Armenian Church.
