H, 7th Pennsylvania Reserves (36th Pennsylvania Infantry). Admitted to Carver U.S. Hospital in Washington DC on June 7, 1862, he there deserted to date December 11, 1862.
He married Mary Gessaman and fathered Frank W. (@1868) and John Edwin (b. 02/05/71). Mary died in 1871, and he married Laura H. Wise, fathering Anna Mae (b. 10/05/73 - married a Brown), Nellie E. (b. @1878), and Grace E. (b. 11/12/79 - married Paul M. Hertzler). Cause of death is listed as "chronic endocarditis" with "nephritis" a contributing factor.

William Schroeder aged eighty-one, father of Mrs. John Freeburn, of James and Third streets, this city died at his home at Mechanicsburg, Pa., near Harrisburg, after being ill for some time. He is survived by two sons and three daughters and was a veteran of the Civil War. Mrs. Freeburn went to Mechanicsburg over the week end in response to a message. The funeral will be held at Mechanicsburg Wednesday afternoon and will be attended by John Freeburn and family.

Mechanicsburg, Nov. 27 - William M. Schroeder, 81, one of the oldest residents in town died at 3 o'clock yesterday morning at his home in East Main street (sic) after a brief illness.
Mr. Schroeder for many years was a member of the firm of Schroeder & Sons, who conducted a carriage shop in what is now known as the Harnish building, East Main street (sic). He is a member of Trinity Lutheran Church of town.
He is survived by two sons, Frank Schroeder, of Reading; and John Schroeder, of Harrisburg; three daughters, Mrs. Paul M. Hertzler, of Mechanicsburg; Mrs. H.C. Brown, of Camp Hill; and Mrs. J.M. Freeburn, of Hazleton.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday afternoon at 2 o'clock from his home with the Rev. E. Martin Grove, pastor of Trinity Lutheran church (sic) officiating. Burial will be in the Chestnut Hill cemetery (sic).
Friends wishing to view the body may do so between the hours of 7 and 9 this evening.
