Fort Campbell Memorial Park commemorates the deaths of 248 soldiers of the U.S. Army's 101st Airborne Division and 8 crewmen, who, while returning home to their base in Fort Campbell from a 6 month deployment in the Middle-East where they had served in the Multinational Force and Observers peacekeeping mission, lost their lives in a plane crash near Gander, Newfoundland, Canada on 12 December 1985 at 10:15 UTC (06:45 NST). It is the deadliest aviation accident to occur on Canadian soil and the second deadliest involving a DC-8 aircraft.

The 16 acre park is located at 41-A and Pennyrile Parkway and features a paved walking trail, benches and lighted "Peacekeeper" monument sculpted by Hopkinsville artist Steve Shields. The 7 foot copper statue is fronted by granite markers chiseled with the names of the 248 fallen soldiers known as the "Screaming Eagles". Leading up to the monument is a a grove of trees, with one tree was planted in honor of each victim and a dedication plaque.
