Middlebury College, Middlebury, Vermont, class of 1919. From Kaleidoscope yearbook:

LEON MCKINLEY ADKINS, KAPPA DELTA RHO
"Stretch"
Ticonderoga, New York

Ticonderoga High School; President Freshman Debating Society (1); Class Hockey (2, 3); Merrill Prize Speaker (2); Class Baseball (3); Chairman Junior Prom Committee (3); Class Basketball (3, 4); President Apollo Club (4); Second Lieutenant U.S. Infantry.

"Stretch" is a quiet lad, but he gets there just the same. His greatest dissipation seems to be giving co-eds a ride in his Ford, which he manipulates without the use of objectionable language; quite an art. He intends to be a minister and we predict that he will one day put "Billy" Sunday out of business.

"Every inch a man, even not considering his feet."
