WILLIAM H. "BILL" YERKS, 85, of Woodburn, Ind., died Saturday, Dec. 2, 2006 at Parkview Hospital. He was born Dec. 23, 1920 in Milan Center, the son of the late Dorwin and Mary (Lake) Yerks. He was employed by Dorwin Yerks & Sons Seed Business. He retired from Zollner Piston Company. He was a graduate of Woodburn High School. He served in the Pacific Theater during World War II as a United States Marine Corps Staff Sargent, VMF 215. He was a member of VFW Antwerp, Ohio, American Legion Post 377 Woodburn, Zollner Retirees and St. John the Baptist Roman Catholic Church. Surviving are his wife, Dorothy "Dottie" Golden Yerks of Woodburn; daughters, Diane (Frank) Kozuh of Owego, N.Y. and Darlene Selzer-Miller (Murray Miller) of Fort Wayne; grandchildren, Alissa Kozuh and Laura Kozuh, Angie Baldwin, Jeremy Selzer, and Robert (Tony) Miller; step children, Kathy Talkington of Huron, Ohio and Warren Golden of Berryville, Va.; several step grandchildren and step great-grandchildren; sisters, Fern Kees of Mesa, Ariz. and Donna Lampe of Garrett, Ind. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Elizabeth "Betty" Rondot; daughter, Susan Yerks; and a brother, Richard. "Bill was a beloved husband, father, grandpa, great-grandpa, brother and friend." Mass of Christian Burial is 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, New Haven, 943 Powers St., New Haven, with calling one hour prior to Mass at the church. Calling also from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Hockemeyer Funeral Home, Harlan, Ind. Burial in Harlan Memorial Cemetery. Memorials to American Lung Association or American Cancer Society.
