Mrs. Edith J. Nelson Steiner, 82, who made her home with a daughter, Mrs. Irene R. Hawk at 3041 Phipps Court, died at 1:55 p.m. Tuesday in Home Hospital where she had been a patient since Dec. 18.

She was born and reared in Americus and lived in the Battle Ground area prior to moving to Lafayette in 1927. She was married in 1916 to Harry Steiner, an employee of the Lafayette Ice and Coal Co., who died in 1936.

Mrs. Steiner worked as a cook for many years in Lafayette restaurants including the Downtowner and the Lafayette Cafe. She was named Mother of the Year in 1958 by Eagles Lodge 347.

She was a member of St. James Lutheran Church.

Surviving are four sons and six daughters: Robert "Erv" Steiner of Connersville, Thomas H. of Lafayette, John W. of West Lafayette and Joseph A., Lafayette; Mrs. Richard (Anna Marie) Kemery of Hamilton; Mrs. George (Hazel) Braun of Crawfordsville, Mrs. Jim (Selma) Moore and Mrs. Wayman (Katherine) Troxel, both of West Point, Mrs. Henry (Virginia) Wagner of Winimac and Mrs. Hawk of Lafayette. Also surviving is one sister, Mrs. Effie Emrich of Americus.
