SFC (Ret.) Bernard P. (Flat) Ridlen, 83, a longtime resident of the Manitou Springs area, passed away on Thursday, October 20th, 2005, at Pikes Peak Hospice. He was retired after 21 years of service from the United States Army, where he was a Veteran of WWII. After his service in the Military, Flat also worked at Santa's Workshop and Manitou Springs School District 14.

Flat was born on February 1, 1922, in Macon, Illinois to Goldie Ridlen Plunkett and Isaac Ridlen. He was married to Ilse A. Selch on July 5, 1952 in Weiden, Germany. They were married over 53 years.

His parents, brothers Earl (Ike) Ridlen, Richard Godsey, and nephew Gene Ridlen preceded him in death. He is survived by his wife, daughter Loretta Kercher (Ron), son Mark Ridlen (Debra), five grandchildren Ryan Kercher (Becky), Alan Kercher (Jennifer), Leanne MacKenzie (Scott), Joshua Ridlen, Nathan Ridlen, and three great-grandchildren Brayden Kercher, Evan Kercher and Ainslie MacKenzie. He is also survived by a large extended family, as well.

A Memorial Service will be held on Monday, October 24, 2005 at 11:00 a.m., at Blunt Mortuary, 2229 West Colorado Avenue, Colorado Springs, CO, 80904.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Pikes Peak Hospice, 825 East Pikes Peak Avenue, Suite 600, Colorado Springs, CO 80903.
