Don Edward Tayrien, 70, of Bartlesville died on Saturday, May 25, 2013, following a short battle with cancer. Funeral services will be held at 10 A.M. on Wednesday, May 29, 2013 at St. John’s Catholic Church, Fr. Festus Malwali officiating. Interment will be held at a later date to be determined by family. Casket escorts will include Cody Werth, Andrew Werth, Jarrod Tayrien, Sam Werth, Seth Tayrien, Kevin Koslowsky, Bob Tayrien, and Chris Tayrien. The Tayrien family will receive guests for visitation at the Stumpff Funeral Home on Tuesday evening from 6 P.M. until 7 P.M., with a Rosary to follow at 7 P.M. In lieu of flowers, money can be donated to The Wounded Warriors Foundation in his name.
Don was born September 23, 1942 in Pawhuska, Oklahoma, son of Carl W. Tayrien and Majel B. Prophet. Don is of Osage and Eastern Shawnee decent. Don graduated from Winfield High School in 1960, and went on to attend college at Emporia State University, graduating in 1966 with a B.A. in Business Administration. Don also played basketball during his time at Emporia State. After college, Don went to work in the oil fields and travelled around Kansas and Oklahoma for work. In 1967, Don met Shirley Lentz and they were married June 19, 1968, and had a son and two daughters. Don worked his way up in ranks at City Service Oil Company, eventually becoming an accountant. After many years of traveling around for work, Don and his family finally settled in Bartlesville, Oklahoma to raise their children. Don spent his life being a dedicated, hard-working and loving father. He enjoyed being outdoors as much as possible, reading and spending time with friends and family.
Don Tayrien is survived by three sons, Todd Tayrien and Troy Tayrien, both of Wichita, KS, and Randy Tayrien of Bartlesville, two daughters, Belinda Werth of Wichita, KS and Jamie Tayrien-Shuey of Grove, one sister Sandra Tayrien-Jaehnig and one brother, and Robert C. Tayrien, both of Bartlesville, and 11 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his father Carl W. Tayrien, his mother, Majel B. Prophet-Tayrien, and his wife Shirley Tayrien.
