David was born on June 9, 1937 in Kingston, Pa., the son of the late Melburn L. and Doris E. Lauderbach Carey. He enjoyed golf, was an avid Penn State fan and he loved NASCAR. David used to race cars through the town of Watkins Glen before they built the track.
He is predeceased by his three sisters: Nancy, Doris and Polly.
David is survived by: his loving wife of 35 years, Carol; his children, Scott and Pamela Carey of San Francisco, Calif., Pamela and Ed Goldman, also of San Francisco, Calif., and Mark Carey of Colorado; his grandchildren, Jennifer Carey of Colorado and Zackary Carey of San Francisco, Calif.; his siblings, Jessie, Mollie, Lois, Susan, Patty, Betsy, Robin, John, Jim, Robert and Mike; along with numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
The family has requested that there be no viewing and a memorial service will be announced at a later date. The service is under the direction of the Jay E. Lowery Funeral Home, Inc.
