"Dorothy Mae Gies, a lifetime resident of Odessa, died May 18, 2005 in Odessa. She was 92 years old. Dorothy was born on Nov 8, 1912, in Odessa to John and Mary (Weber) Hopp Jr. She grew up in Odessa and attended Odessa schools, graduating from Odessa High School with the Class of 1930. She married George Gies on Dec 15, 1935, in Odessa. They farmed south of Odessa for many years. She was a member of Christ Lutheran Church, the Odessa Grange and a founding member of the Odessa Hospital Guild. She is survived by her son, James Gies, of Liverpool, NY; Gary William (and Brenda Horak); one sister, Loretta Miller, of Spokane; two sisters-in-law, Katherine Gies, of Odessa, and Joanne Gies, of Salem, OR; one brother-in-law, R. L. Tanck, of Odessa, and 10 nieces and nephews. Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, John and Mary Hopp Jr.; husband, George Gies, in 2000, and two sisters, Leona Luiten and Helen Borgens. Funeral services were held Monday, May 23 at Christ Lutheran Church in Odessa, with pastor Tim Hauge officiating. Interment was at Odessa Cemetery. Strate Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements."
