Born in Blount county in east Tennessee and died a resident of Union, Ms. Married Maria Henderson in Fayette county Alabama in 1824 and with her had 8 children, 2 sons and 6 daughters. He came to what was known at the time as Choctaw Nation in 1826 and assisted in locating and laying out the town of DeKalb in Kemper county, Ms where he was also the county coroner.
In 1839 he settled in Neshoba county near the town of Union where he lived for 50 years and served as Justice of the Peace and as the Post master. He was a consistent member of the Baptist church well above 20 years.
Both of his sons, James and William, gave their lives to the cause of the South in the great civil war. James, the eldest served in Co. D 3rd Arkansas Vol;s Infantry and was killed at Chicamaugua on Sept 20, 1863. William H Boyd, was in CO B 8th Miss Vol's Infantry and was captured at Franklin, TN in Dec 1864 and later died in the federal hospital in Nashville, TN on Jan 3, 1865. His beloved wife was so upset by the deaths of her noble boys that she became prey to disease that closed her life on Aug 20, 1866.
William then married a second time to Mrs. D.A.Reynolds who was his companion until her death Dec. 25, 1888.
When his last hour came, he was no doubt ready to take his departure and while loved ones and friends gathered near his bedside, he closed his eyes and breathed his last breath "The soul is with God. The body in the earthly casket is buried in Mount Zion Church yard"
