Nebraska City News-Press (NE) - Wednesday, November 11, 2009:

Joseph Shallenberger, Jr., 78, died of cancer on Nov. 7, 2009 at a care home in Papillion.

He was born in Nebraska City to Joseph E. and Louise (Kleber) Shallenberger on Dec. 18, 1930.

He lived in Nebraska City for much of his childhood and worked as a body repair man until he moved to Omaha in 1964. He owned a body repair business in Papillion for many years.

Joe is survived by his second wife, Betty Freeman; first wife, Darlene Clayton; sons Dennis and wife Lynda, Danny and wife Mary, and David; daughters Debi, Dawn, and Bobbie Jo and husband Jerry; step-son Brad Freeman and wife Paula; 11 grandchildren, Daniel, Jake, Robert, Barbara, Angie, Brandyn, Erik, Destiny, JJ, Jesse and Danille; eight great-grandchildren: Timmy, Nick, Caleb, Jeff, Andy, Keegan, Owen and Rebecca; sister Louise M. Sudman of Nebraska City; and many other family and friends.

He was preceded in death by four brothers, Joy, Edward, Charles and William, and an infant sister, Dorothy.

Inurnment will be at Wyuka Cemetery with a short graveside service at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 14.

Family and friends are invited to a potluck at the Eagles Club at 600 1st Corso in Nebraska City after the services.
