Gail Margaret Thrope was the daughter of the famous athlete James "Jim" Francis Thorpe and Iva Miller Thorpe Davies; she had the following siblings: Jim Thorpe Jr. (who died at the age of 2), Charlotte Thorpe, Grace Thorpe, and Phillip Thorpe.

She had the following 4 half-brothers (mother: Freeda Kirkpatrick): Carl, William "Bill," Richard, and John (Jack) Thorpe.

She was the mother of Gail Lynn Hannon (Bernard), and Sharon Kossakowski (Tony); the grandmother of Margaret Urbane (Mark), Patrick Hannon (Michelle), Michael Hannon (Susan), Marc Hannon (Linda), Maureen Johnson (Jeffery), Cory Hannon (Jennifer), Jacalynne Hannon, Anton Kossakowski, James Kossakowsie (Shelly), Krystyn Thomas (Jason), and Gail Pierce.

She attended the Haskell and Chbilocco Indian Schools as a child, then attended Northeastern OK Univeristy where she received an Undergraduate degree in 1975. She studied at the Univ. of TN and then received her MBA degree at Northeastern University.

She worked for the National Branch of the Girls Scouts of America as well as a Chicago Farm Supply and Velsicol Chemical Co; she retired back to Yale, OK, in 1983 to start the Jim Thorpe Memorial Foundation, Sac & Fox Bingo Board, and the Yale Tennis Club. She was an accomplished artist and reveived her study at OSU; she Bingo Queen for 2 yrs. She was commissioned by the US Congress to serve on the Congressional Committee for the American Indian Policy Review Board. She was on the the principles responsible for Jim Thorpe being named "Athlete of the Century."
