Lawrence Gordon Garrett was born to David Garrett and Pethina Jane Coyle.

He married Emma Evans and had the following children Effie, Hallen, Liter, Riley, Delmer and Jewel Garrett.

His siblings were Vernetta, Elbert Franklin Sr, William Leonard, James Andrew, John Flemon,Walter Irvin, and Robert Melvin.

In the 1910 census, he and his wife have just one child, one-year-old "Effie". In 1920, after his death, Emma is living in her parents' home, along with her 11-year-old son Robert Garrett. Emma's 1955 obituary mentions only a surviving son, Robert, of Houston, Texas.
