The Madison County Record, August 16, 1956: Funeral services for Mrs. Ann McConnell, 84, of the McConnell Chapel community were held Monday afternoon, August 13 (1956) at 2:30 o'clock at the Assembly of God church in Huntsville conducted by the pastor, the Rev. Omer Jarrell, and Rev. Burr Wiggins. "Aunt Ann" as she was known familiarly by her friends and acquaintances, passed away at her home Sunday, August 12, at 1 a.m. She had been in ill health for quite some time.Aunt Ann was a well-known resident of the county, having been born here January 28, 1872, and spent her entire lifetime here. Her parents were William Rufus Phillips and Eliza Williams Phillips. Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Bessie Scott of Cardin, Okla., and Mrs. Thelma Hawkins of Route 4, Huntsville; four sons, Rufus McConnell of Summerville, Mo., Arlis McConnell of Los Angeles, Calif., Claud and Wallace McConnell, both of Huntsville; three sisters, Kelly Phillips of Huntsville, Med Atkinson of Gruver, Texas and Edith Kelsey or San Bernardino, Calif; nine grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.Burial was in the Huntsville cemetery under the direction of the Brashears Funeral Home.
