George Jacob Webel, 83, died May 31, 2003. He was born in Illinois on Aug. 31, 1919. He lived in Hesperia for 21 of his 70 years in California. George was a longtime member of the Hesperia Leisure League, an avid pool player and a proud Òfriend of Bill W.Ó for more than 40 years. He was a generous soul, a beloved husband, father, grandfather and friend. He will be missed. George is survived by his loving wife, Armida Webel; children, Kenneth Webel and Carol Garcia; grandchildren Kenneth Jr., Ernie and Mary Smart; stepchildren Lisa and Pastor Rene De La Cruz of Victorville and Apple Valley; step-grandchildren Armida Soto, Alex Rangel and Kristian and Jacob De La Cruz.Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. today at Desert View Memorial Park, 11500 Amargosa Road in Victorville. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the local hospice organization or Alcoholics Anonymous. Victor Valley Mortuary is handling arrangements.
