A teacher for many years, Glenn Brinkmeier, 55, of Rt. 2 Granton, died Wednesday February 16, at St. Joseph's Hospital in Marshfield. Funeral services were held Saturday at 2 p.m. from the Gilbertson Funeral Home, Granton, with the Rev. E.T. Keller of Pittsville officiating. Interment was in the Sherwood Cemetery.
Born January 22, 1922, in Pearl City, Il., he attended Granton High School and Milwaukee State Teacher's College. His marriage to the former Bernice Johnson took place March 8, 1945, at Sherwood.
Mr. Brinkmeier taught in Wauwatosa for 11 years and was special education teacher for CESA at portage for 8 years. He taught as well at Oxford and Rio, was a staff member at Sunburst in Neillsville for one year and taught at Granton for one year. He had lived on Rt. 2 Granton, for the past three years.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Cheryl Garceau of Stevens Point and Mrs. John (Gloria) Young of Ontario, Wi.; and by one grandson. He is also survived by his father, Oscar Brinkmeier of Lena, Il., and by a sister, Mrs. Robert (Irene) James of Apple River, Il.
Pallbearers were Gene Scholtz, Thomas Scholtz, Leslie Todd, Doug Moennig, Louis Rosandich and Larry Steinwagner. Mrs. Robert Friedrichsen was the organist.
Graveside military rites were conducted by Palmer-Ritchie-Thomas Post No.153, Pittsville. Twelve post members were present. Service Officer Douglas Gorst presented the flag to Mrs. Brinkmeier, and Greg Urban sounded Taps. Other Legion members in attendance were Billy Hahn, Robert Fairbert, George Florence, Neal Coulthard, Ed Jaromin, Felix Grutzik, Carl Franson, Harold Freedlund, Wayne Schwanebeck, Terry Smith and Russell Jacobson. The late Mr. Brinkmeier was a U.S. Navy veteran of WWII.
