Former Casper Auto Salesman Loses Life

Louis Arnold Instantly Killed When Car Overturns North of Buffalo Late Thursday

Louis Arnold, 43, former Casper resident widely known in the community and a resident here 10 years or more, was killed in an automobile accident Thursday night near Buffalo, Wyo.

His body was found over 40 feet from his car north of Buffalo. Investigating officers said Friday that he apparently was thrown out of the car as it began rolling over after leaving the highway. He suffered a fractured skull and died instantly, officers stated.

Arnold had been to Sheridan to receive a new automobile for delivery, and was en route home. The accident occurred about 6 o'clock, but passing motorists did not discover Arnold's body until an hour and a half later.

The car had run off the highway at a sharp curve three miles north of Buffalo and overturned three times, Arnold, who was alone, was thrown 42 feet from the rolling machine, which went 135 feet after leaving the road.

Employed by the Nolan Chevrolet company in its sales department for approximately 10 years, Mr. Arnold left here eight months ago to take over the Dodge-Plymouth agency in Buffalo. He had been engaged in the automobile business the most of his life; and came to Casper from Wray, Colo., where he spent his boyhood.

Those who survive include his widow and two-year-old daughter, Pennie Jean, in Buffalo; two nieces, Mrs. Herbert Castle and Mrs. H. S. Lehman, both of Casper; and four sisters, Mrs. Sue Shelley of Wray, Mrs. Ed Haas of Denver, Mrs. Carl Abiern of Chicago and Mrs. Joseph Hendryx of Wichita Falls, Tex.

The death was the first Wyoming highway fatality reported for the year. A year ago seven deaths had been reported by January 27.
