Anna Mae Mangan was born July 4, 1927, at the family farm near LaMoure, ND. She was the youngest child of William Edward and Mabel Theresa (Peterson) Mangan. As a child, she was a self proclaimed tomboy, preferring sports and outdoor activities to needle work and cooking. She graduated from LaMoure high school at the age of 16 and attended the Nursing School at Valley City State College.

Anna married Amber Kjell Loe on June 19, 1946, in Aberdeen, SD. They had six children and lived in LaMoure, Tolna, Michigan, Grand Forks, and Manvel, ND. In their later years, they spent many winters in Southern California and in North and South Carolina.

Although Anna didn't like cooking and baking as a young girl, she became an excellent cook and baker as an adult. She was famous within her family and the community for her home baked goodies, especially the various breads and the incredible caramel rolls she baked regularly. She enjoyed music and knew lots of songs. She often sang as she went about her daily activities. Her love of sports continued throughout her life. She attended school sporting events, when her children were in school, and was an avid fan of the Minnesota Vikings, the Minnesota Twins, Sioux (UND) Hockey, and high school basketball.

Anna was a very involved mother, encouraging her children to try different activities, enrolling them in voice lessons, piano lessons, band, tap dance classes, ballet classes, hockey league, baseball, summer camps, and anything else they were interested in trying. Education was a high priority, it wasn't a question of if her kids would go to college, it was 'which college do you want to attend'? She was proud that all of her children completed at least one college degree.

In addition to being a wonderful wife, mother, and homemaker, Anna was active in the communities where she lived. She was often called on to help neighbors in need and provided support to many people in times of crisis. Her calm demeanor and good judgment made her a valuable community resource. She was an American Legion Auxiliary member for 36 years and held various offices during that time. She was active in the Lutheran Church, Homemaker's Club, and Ladies' Aide, sang in the church choir, and participated in a Women's Golf League and a Bowling League. When her children were young, she was involved in the Parent Teachers Association, taught Sunday School, and was a 4-H leader. She was always a kind and generous person.

Anna was a stay-at-home mom for several years. Her work career included being a Realtor with Century 21 Realty, a Tax Specialist with H&R Block, and a nurse at the Michigan Hospital. She also worked as an accountant/bookkeeper for the Farmers Union Oil Company in both Michigan and Grand Forks. She enjoyed working and the camaraderie of her work places. After retiring, she and Amber traveled widely and spent time with their children and grandchildren scattered across the country.

Anna's leisure time activities included bowling, golfing, gardening, fishing, hunting, and playing Bridge and Pinochle. She had a great sense of humor and was fun to be around. She loved spending time with her large extended family and planned many reunions to get everyone together.

Anna died at her home in Manvel on May 19, 2013, as a result of medical errors related to a hospitalization for a bleeding ulcer. Amber, her husband of 61 years, died on August 27, 2007. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Vivian Marie Lunzer; brothers, Willard Mangan, Roy Mangan, and Paul Mangan; and nephews, Patrick Lunzer and Dean Mangan. She is survived by her six children, eight grandchildren, two great grandchildren, three step grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
