He married, June 10, 1778, Hannah Condit, b. March 4, 1756, the daughter of a prominent family of the neighborhood. About 1790, with his cousins Daniel and Thomas, he moved to Washington County, PA, where some of his decendants still live. The old brick house built by Luther Axtell is still in use at the present time. He served as a "Minute Man" in the Revolution. He died June 2, 1822; his wife Hannah died April 7, 1840.

Of these daughters, Hannah in Iowa and Bethany in Pennsylvania, died on the same day, about the same hour, funeral services were held at the same hour, sermon from the same text and the same hymns were sung.
