Thomas was the son of Rev. James Stephens Terral (1811-1879) and his wife Mary Aletha Heidelberg (1812-1885).

Thomas' paternal grandparents were:
Susana Artalissa Stephens (1768-1811)
Edward Young Terrall (1765-1833) was a Revolutionary War Patriot. At the age of 17, he served as a Private in the South Carolina Militia.

1862 Oct 4 - Thomas was killed at the Battle of Corinth

Thomas' brother, James Stephens Terral was a Lt. Colonel and also fought at the Battle of Corinth. He was wounded on 3 Cot 1862 and he died of his injuries 2 Nov 1862.
