ZANESVILLE: Evelyn Leora Dick Ankrum, 99, of Zanesville, died at 2:25 A.M. on Monday, May 20, 2013, at Genesis Hospice-Morrison House. She was born March 5, 1914 in Hopewell, a daughter of the late Laysel and Zetta Hibbs Dick. After high school Evelyn worked at SS Kresege Company and later attended Meredith Business College. Later in life she worked as a clerk in the men's department at JCPenneys. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church, where she was active in the Couple's Class and the Unity Circle of United Methodist Women. She also attended the Senior OWLs Club at Grace United Methodist Church for 20 years. In her spare time she enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, sewing, traveling, quilting, looking up her genealogy and the daily cryptoquotes. Her biggest passion was making crafts out of old quilts. She displayed them at many of the Saturday bazaars, where she would go with her two sisters, Dorothy and Charlotte. She also volunteered at Bethesda Hospital. Evelyn was a member of the DAR and actively participated in the activities at Emeritus at North Hills including the "Dingalings".

Surviving are a son, Roderick (Hazel) Ankrum of Kingswood, TX.; a daughter, Rhonda (Robert) Todd of Zanesville; four grandchildren, Robert L. Todd III of Zanesville, Austin C. Todd of Chicago, Ill., Tracy Colegrove of Lancaster and Schnele (Chris) Wilson of NYC ; two great grandsons, Mitchell and Tanner Colegrove; a sister, Dorothy Schenk of Zanesville; a brother-in-law, James Shaw of Zanesville and a sister-in-law, Cora Dick of Dover.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur E. Ankrum, who died on March 5, 2005, four brothers, Owen Dick, Frederick Dick, Robert Dick and Infant Gabriel Dick; and a sister, Charlotte Shaw.

Friends and family may call from noon till the time of service at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 23, 2013 at Bolin-Dierkes Funeral Home, 1271 Blue Avenue, Zanesville with Chaplain Tim Patton officiating. Evelyn will be laid to rest next to her husband, Arthur at Zanesville Memorial Park.
