Levi Dolloff Johnson was born on January 19, 1832, in Bridgewater, New Hampshire, his father, Jeremiah, was 34 and his mother, Elizabeth Sleeper Johnson, was 26. He married Dec. 26, 1860, Ellen Caroline Rollins (1840–1864) at Plymouth, New Hampshire. They had two children together. He married second Abbie J. Hanchette on Aug. 3, 1865 at Bristol, New Hampshire. They had one daughter together.
He was a photographer in Bristol, Grafton County, New Hampshire and Town Clerk there from 1864-1866. He removed to Vineland, New Jersey, where he continued as a photographer. He died on October 19, 1905 at the age of 73, and was buried at the Siloam Cemetery, Vineland, Cumberland County, New Jersey.
