Oliver A. McClure, 91, formerly of Chambersburg, Pennsylvania died Friday, June 3, 1:06 a.m. at the Chambersburg Hospital. Mr. McClure was a resident of ManorCare of Chambersburg since August 2002.
Born December 7, 1913, in Chambersburg, to the late Gerald and Leila (Arris) McClure, Oliver was a lifelong resident of Chambersburg. His wife, Alice Elizabeth Shatzer, whom he married in 1943, died May 15, 1984.
Oliver attended local area schools. He retired from the former Chambersburg Engineering Company in 1978 after 42 years of service. Oliver was proud of his work and being part of the Engineering Company. His memberships included: Goodwill Fire Company; Life Member of the Chambersburg Fireman Relief Association; Franklin and Fulton Counties Fireman's Association; Junior Order of the United American Machinists; and the First United Methodist Church.
Oliver went on three trips, with his son Terry, to California. During one trip they went over the border to Mexico. Oliver's sister, Ida, lived in San Diego, and brother Lindsay lived in Los Angeles. Oliver enjoyed picnics at Caladonia State Park. He enjoyed smoking cigaretes, listening to relaxing music, and watching Wrestling and Price is Right on T.V.
People turned to Oliver when they needed help, especially when they needed money. He would often hear "Ollie, I kinda need to talk to you about something." Oliver gave and gave and often was never repaid.
Oliver is survived by his son, Terry L. McClure and wife, Susan of Millersville, Md.; stepdaughter Rose Marie Baer and husband, Harold of Chambersburg; grandchildren: Amy McClure of Glen Burnie, Md.; Richard Baer of Shippensburg, Pa.; Michael Baer of Harrisburg, Pa.; and three great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two brothers: Freeman and Lindsay; and one sister, Ida Kennedy.
Oliver will be remembered as a kind and generous man. During his younger days he loved to walk downtown and visit with the local people. Oliver is loved and missed.

You left us beautiful memories,your love is still our guide and though we cannot see you, you are always at our side. Our family chain is broken, and nothing seems the same, but as God calls us one by one, the chain will link again."
