Tamar Davis displayed some of that fierce passion of her Biblical namesake and eventually moved from US East Coast to the American frontier, coming to the great Midwestern prairie with her husband Matthew Barker, while those territories were just beginning to be recognized as official states in the United States of America. They established a post office, saw and gristmill, general store, etc. called Barker Mills on the Chariton River when Iowa was just a baby. And like the Tamar of the Bible, she was left as a widow at a relatively young age, but unlike her namesake, she was already the mother of 13 children. What a challenge and what a responsibility! She was a woman of faith and commitment and when she found no "Society of Friends" around her new frontier home she identified with the Hickory Ridge Church of Christ meeting near the Barker Mills area. She faithfully lived out her faith as far as is known.
{From Jacob Milton Vincent, --a great, great, great grandson of Tamar Davis Barker and spiritual brother of the "Lion of the Tribe of Judah [and Tamar!]"
