Lylas Rae Albertsen, 92, of South Sioux City died Friday, Oct. 14, 2005, of natural causes at a South Sioux City nursing home.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at First Presbyterian Church in South Sioux City, with the Rev. Stephen Niles officiating. Burial will be in Dakota City Cemetery. Visitation will be 3 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present at 6 p.m., at Becker-Hunt Funeral Home.

Lylas was born Jan. 19, 1913, in Winnebago, Neb., the daughter of Paul A. and Anna Belle (Livingston) Thompson. She grew up in Winnebago and graduated in 1931 from Winnebago High School.

She married Ernest L. (Ernie) Albertsen on Nov. 14, 1931, in South Sioux City. Lylas was an avid gardener and loved her flowers and her cactus. She won ribbons at the Dakota County Fair for her flower arrangements. She had the most beautiful lilacs in the city of South Sioux. Lylas was kind to animals and loved to travel.

She was a member of First Presbyterian Church and Church Circle. She was also a longtime member and president of the Rebekah Lodge of District 30. She was a great Mayor's wife for 10 years, the mother of two boys (deceased), two girls, a wonderful grandmother of five, great-grandmother of seven and a loving sibling to four sisters. She kept her family together with her great cooking and by her loving, caring ways with her family and their friends.

Survivors include two daughters, Connie P. Lanagan of South Sioux City, and April S. Blake of Bellevue, Neb.; five grandchildren, Jeffrey P. Blake, Connie Lou Wilson, Troy R. Lanagan, Lisa R. Bahr and Melany S. Chesterman; seven great-grandchildren; and a sister, Shirley Cimino of Fairmont, Minn.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Ernest; her parents; two sons, Ernest LeRoy and Paul Lynn; and three sisters, Lowene Guinan, Adeline Becker and Bertha Wiltfang.

Pallbearers will be her five grandchildren and Everett Bahr.
