Civil War Confederate Brigadier General. Prior to the Civil War, he served in the Mississippi House of Representatives, 1850 to 1854 and in the Mississippi Senate, 1856 to 1862. In February 1862, he enlisted in the Confederate Army and was commissioned Colonel of the 28th Cavalry. He led the 28th Cavalry in engagements in Virginia, Mississippi and the Wilderness and was promoted Brigadier General in November 1864. After the war, he was a member of the Board of Mississippi Levee Commissioners, 1866 to 1872.
