Maria was born in Great Barrington, MA to Ozias and Cordelia (Andrews) Olds. She first married William Pixley, son of Levi and Lucy (unknown) Pixley. William and Maria had two children, one, a daughter Lydia who died at age three. William Pixley died in 1876 leaving Maria a widow with a young child to take care of. About 1880 Maria met widower Alonzo Cole who had recently lost his wife of many years, Mary Stevens. So Maria and Alonzo married about 1881 (Alonzo was 61 and Maria was about 32) and had one child, Burton, born in May 1882. Nothing more is known about Alonzo after 1822, but he probably died about 1890 and Burton was sent off to New York State to live with his half-brother Hiram to learn the blacksmith trade. He never returned home to his mother. Maria died in 1899 in a hospital in Pittsfield, MA and was buried with her first husband at the Olds family plot in Greenlawn Cemetery, Housatonic, MA. Surprisingly the family monument reads "COLE" instead of "PIXLEY" or "OLDS". Burton Cole died young (about 1905) and is also buried at the Cole-Pixley plot at Greenlawn Cemetery. He has a footstone there.
The burial date and place of her second husband Alonzo is a mystery that's never been solved. There is no town record that Alonzo was ever buried in the Berkshire County area.
