Lloyd L. Shelton, 92, passed away June 26 in Bowling Green, Ohio. He was the son of W. Heston and Roma G. Shelton.
Born in Scotch Ridge and raised on the farm at Poe and St. Route 105, he was graduated from Bowling Green High School and BGSU. He deeply impacted his family, friends and the community- at-large.
Farmer, pilot, Air Force officer, business owner, handball player, bicycle rider, and staunch Republican, Lloyd was a character.
He received his private pilot's license in 1939 and immediately entered the Cadet Program of the Army Air Corps. During WWII, he flew C-46 transport planes between Burma and China, an area known as "The Hump." Through continued service in the Korean War and the Air Force Reserve, he attained the rank of Lieutenant Colonel.
Lloyd married Donna Marie Crawford in 1950 and had three children, Pam, Trish and Lloyd. His wife, Donna, and son, Lloyd, preceded him in death in 1960 and 2002, respectively. In 1961 Shelton married Ione Luella Kiplinger, who died in 2003. In 2004, he married Dorothy Jean Anderson, of Bluffton, Ohio.
Often seen pedaling his bicycle around the city and county, Shelton regularly rode 7,000 miles each year. He was a great supporter of the Slippery Elm Trail and was a founding member of the New Year's Day Bean Ride. His service to the community found expression in the political arena. He served on the BG City Council from 1968 to 1971 and actively supported the Wood County Republican Party until his last days.
Lloyd was a member of First Presbyterian Church, the Scottish Rite Masons, Alpha Tau Omega fraternity and the BGSU President's Club.
He is survived by his wife, Dottie Anderson Shelton, Pam Shelton, of Vero Beach, FL, Trish Ryland (husband Dave) of Sandy, Utah. Grandchildren: Tuesday Siciliano, Shelti Thompson and Jake Ryland, all of Utah. Great grandchildren: Soleil Siciliano and Lucas Thompson of Utah.
Visitation wasat DUNN FUNERAL HOME, Bowling Green, on Saturday, June 30. A Life Celebration was held that evening fro. at the Bowling Green Country Club. The family invites all who knew and loved Lloyd to attend.
