Francis Fairman was a son of Jared Fairman and his wife, Hannah Howard who came to Canton Twp., Wayne Co., MI, about 1827 from Penfield, Monroe Co., NY.
Francis and his wife, Cornelia Westfall, lived on their farm in Canton Twp., Wayne Co., MI, with 200 acres in Canton Twp., and 500 acres in Plymouth Twp. In 1865, they bought a house in the village of Plymouth and lived there until 1874. Francis drove to his farm lands by horse and buggy.
They were well known for their hospitality and enjoyed entertaining family and friends at their city and country homes.
By the time Francis died in 1894, seasons of crop failures and low prices had caused the family fortunes to decline. Much of his land had to be sold to meet his financial obligations. After Francis' death, Cornelia continued living at their farm in Canton Twp., Wayne Co., MI. She died there in 1912.
